Nestled in the southern Netherlands, Best Kept Secret Festival is fast becoming a go-to event for music lovers across Europe. The three-day long, 25,000 fixed-capacity festival was launched in 2012. Taking place in Hilvarenbeek, it’s uniquely positioned between a lake, a beach, extensive forestland and a safari park.
The festival is famous for its special line-up which offers you well-known names as well as lesser-known secrets. This year’s edition will feature the likes of The National, The Strokes (playing their first show in the country for 15 years), Massive Attack, Fontaines D.C., Metronomy, Belle and Sebastian, Weyes Blood and many more.
In its short life, Best Kept Secret has hosted enviable line-ups including Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Kraftwerk and Beck and continues to attract musicians and festival-goers alike to its exceptional and intimate environment.
The festival is divided into different stages, which each hold their own genre. From rock to electronic, every visitor will find something that suits their musical desires.
The National to play a special set on the opening night
This year’s edition will be held from 12 to 14 June. The first day on the Friday will by headlined by The National — who will play a special 10 years of High Violet show — and on the same day you can also enjoy performances from artists such as BADBADNOTGOOD, DIIV, Dope Lemon and Squid.
The Strokes headline Saturday 13 June
On the Saturday you can see The Strokes play their first Dutch show in 15 years. Fontaines D.C., Catfish and the Bottlemen, Girl Band and black midi will also blow you away with their performances on Saturday.
Apart from the great bands there is also a lively night-programme on Friday and Saturday featuring world class DJs.
Massive Attack will close the festival
At Best Kept Secret Festival, Sundays aren’t for lying in bed. Maggie Roggers, Belle and Sebastian and The Avalanches will make sure you’re not going to spend all day chilling in the grass or around the lake — at least not for the whole day! Massive Attack will close the festival with a state-of-the-art audio-visual spectacle.
Camping and accommodation
After the festival, the party will carry on at the camping ground. Best Kept Secret offers various types of accommodation such as Festitents and Kartents (tents made out of cardboard). There is even accommodation amongst the wild animals in the Safari Park! Of course, you can also bring your own tent.
Food & drink
Best Kept Secret Festival excels in their quality of food. The festival offers a wide range of different meals including a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. Best Kept Secret prioritises sustainability by reducing the use of single-use plastics. All drinks are poured in hard cups and the festival is completely cashless — at any bar or foodtruck, you can pay with your own debit or credit card. Best Kept Secret aims to be circular by 2025.
